Benoit Coté
Né à Québec en 1930, il commence à peindre dès son plus jeune âge et en 1953 il reçoit une maîtrise en administration de L’Université Laval de Québec. En 1959, il obtient une bourse de la Fondation Greensfields qui lui permet d’étudier et de voyager en Europe pour un bon moment. Son médium préféré est l’acrylique et de 1958 à 1966 Benoit Coté a tenu dix expositions à Québec et Montréal, dont trois avec Jean Paul Lemieux, Edmund Alleyn, Aristide Gagnon, Jean Philippe Dallaire et son ami Claude Picher. De 1967 à 1980, il décide de tout arrêter, question de mieux réfléchir à son avenir et son art. Et heureusement à partir de 1980, il se consacre uniquement à la peinture, en présentant régulièrement des expositions solo au Canada et à l’étranger.
He’s a self-taught artist, he began painting very young and in 1953 he received a M.B.A. from Laval University in Québec, and in 1959 was awarded from Greensfields Foundation, that gave him a grant which allowed him to study and travel in Europe for a while. From 1958 to 1966, he held ten exhibitions in Quebec city and Montreal, including three with Jean Paul Lemieux, Edmund Alleyn, Aristide Gagnon. Jean Philippe Dallaire and his friend Claude Picher. From 1967 to 1980, he stopped painting to think about his life and art but happily in 1980 he came back to painting, dedicating himself exclusively to his art. Since then, he did many solo exhibitions all around Canada and outside the country.
